I'm not sure what has happened to the English language in our culture. Does anyone really use adverbs anymore? I hear "You did excellent!" often...isn't it "You did excellently"?
Adverbs modify verbs and usually end in 'ly', right? I don't think I have actually heard anyone use an adverb properly in a very long time. I keep waiting for the suffix...'ly'...hoping it will come, but it never does. Listen to people around you, listen to TV programs...you won't hear it either. Perhaps it's not cool to actually speak properly anymore.
My typing class in 6th grade was the best investment of my life, but it seems that I no longer need to know where every key stroke should go since every phrase or word has been shortened like lol, brb, ltr, etc. and you can see by the phrases I have listed that I have not kept up with the current slang. Do we now have to speak and write in slang 'sound bytes'?
Language when used cleverly or creatively can convey so much but even in it's simplest form should actually mean something. Adverbs and adjectives are descriptive and can make people think or feel something and provides a deeper understanding of the intended message.
The art of language and words... I certainly don't pretend to have the gift nor am I a language snob, but this is getting ridiculous.
